Starbucks Drinks You Can Easily Make At Home

Call us crazy, but spending more than a few bucks on a cup of coffee just isn't right. But the thing is, Starbucks' diverse menu of caffeinated beverages is just too delicious to resist! Luckily, you can now make your favorite Starbucks drinks from the comfort of your own home. From seasonal specialities, through secret menu items, to the absolute classics, you can enjoy the following Starbucks recipes whenever and however you want. And best of all, you can do so for a fraction of the price.

1. Caramel Macchiato

You don’t have to be a professional barista to make your own Caramel Macchiato, but you may need a professional tool. Many beverages on this list, including the Caramel Macchiato, wouldn’t be the same without perfectly frothed milk. The easiest way to froth milk is with an actual milk frother, but if you don’t have one, you can foam the milk manually with a whisk.

Drizzle the inside of a tall glass with caramel sauce or vanilla sauce. Or both, if you have a sweet tooth. Pour in your frothed milk, add 1 shot of espresso, and then cover the beverage with thick foam. Voila!

2. Strawberry Crème Frappuccino

A former Starbucks barista revealed just how difficult it is to make every 11-year-old's favorite Starbucks beverage, the Frappuccino. “They require much more effort to make than any other drink,” Danielle Damrell told Insider. Luckily, you probably won’t have that issue if you blend up your own frap at home. All you need for the homemade version of a Strawberry Crème Frappuccino is ice, milk, strawberries, and strawberry syrup.

Toss 1 cup of ice cubes, 1 cup of milk, ½ cup of strawberries, 2 tablespoons of strawberry syrup, and 2 tablespoons of sugar into a blender. You can mix the liquid to your desired consistency. Add whipped cream to the top when you’re done!

3. Oatmeal Cookie Café Au Lait

You may not have heard of Starbucks' Oatmeal Cookie Café Au Lait, and that's because it's one of the coffee chain's newest autumnal offerings. What gives this beverage its wholesome flavor is the oatmeal cookie syrup, which you can make by combining ½ cups of brown sugar and water, a ¼ cup of rolled oats, a ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and a ¼ teaspoon of vanilla in a saucepan. Let it simmer for about five minutes, or until the mixture thickens.

Drizzle a tablespoon or 2 of the cookie syrup into an empty mug. Pour in your freshly-made coffee, and then add hot milk. Starbucks recommends adding dollops of whipped cream to the top of your coffee, along with a drizzle of cookie butter.

4. Chai Tea Latte

“If you’re looking for a fresh, hand-made option, Starbucks’ chai is not it,” former Starbucks employee Damrell revealed. But making your own Chai Tea Latte at home should guarantee freshness! To make this classic beverage, you’ll have to raid your spice cabinet. Chai Tea’s base is black tea, but it relies on ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, and, of course, cinnamon in order to achieve its characteristically spicy flavor.

Bring 1 cup of water to a boil with the tea bags, cinnamon stick, and spices (about ½-¼ teaspoon each). Stir in 1 cup of milk as the mixture simmers. Pour the mixture over a strainer, and then drink up.

5. Dragon Drink Starbucks Refresher

Starbucks doesn’t restrict itself to coffee beverages, and you don’t have to, either. And all you need to bring this little ray of sunshine into your own home is a unique kind of juice — and fruit, of course. To make Starbucks’ Dragon Drink Refresher, you need diced dragon fruit, ½ cups of coconut milk, mango juice, and pineapple juice, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Blend these ingredients until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Don't forget to add o1-2 tablespoons of sugar or honey for added sweetness! And if you want to make your Instagram followers really jealous, gently stir in more coconut milk to create a cool marbled effect.

6. Frozen Vanilla Bean Coffee

For this recipe, you'll need a coffee maker and a blender. Brew a strong cup of coffee and let it chill in the fridge. Then, grab your blender and mix the coffee with a ½ cup of milk, 1-2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Once those ingredients are combined, add 1½ cups of ice to the blender. You'll know the drink is ready to pour when it starts to blend smoothly.

Since this is a Frozen Vanilla Bean Coffee, it's important for the "vanilla" part of the beverage to be on point. Take a few sips of the frozen drink and add more vanilla extract as needed. To make your frozen vanilla coffee even sweeter, add a dollop of whipped cream to the top.

7. Chestnut Praline Latte

What truly makes this seasonal latte a winner isn’t its cozy Christmastime flavor, but the fact that you can make it whenever you want in your own kitchen! Like most lattes, this winter favorite starts out with at least 2 shots of espresso as its base. Once you heat 1 cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of chestnut praline syrup in a saucepan, you’ll need to foam the milk with a frother or whisk.

The froth is important since it gives the latte its characteristic foam top. Pour the frothed milk over the espresso, add whipped cream and chopped pralines, and voila! Now it can be Christmas in July — or any other time of the year.

8. The Butterbeer Frappuccino

The rumors persist: does Starbucks have a “secret menu” that contains items like, say, a Butterbeer Frappuccino? “Just make sure you bring in the recipe,” one barista advised Thrillist. “Because if it’s off the secret menu, then we probably don’t know how to make it.” Instead of bothering a barista, why not make the Harry Potter-inspired drink yourself? That’s where your own blender, ingredients, and creativity come in handy.

You can start out with a standard vanilla bean Frappuccino as your base. And if you really want to make this drink by hand, you’ll need to blend up butterscotch syrup, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, milk, and ice cubes. When it’s creamy enough, top it with whipped cream and caramel sauce. It's like magic!

9. Coconut Caramel Cream Cocktail

Back in 2010 Starbucks tentatively released its “Evenings” menu, which features boozy spins on your favorite drinks, including the breezy Coconut Caramel Cream cocktail. Only a select few locations offer this beverage, but luckily for us, Starbucks kindly revealed the recipe for this sweet cocktail online. To make this cocktail, you may want to head to your nearest supermarket to pick up a bag of toasted coconut mocha-flavored coffee.

Toss the specially-brewed coffee into the blender along with 3 cups of ice. Add in 1 ounce of white or dark rum, 1 ounce of almond liqueur, and 2 ounces of caramel-flavored creamer. Don’t forget to add cinnamon and caramel sauce!

10. Honey Almond Milk Flat White

If whole milk isn’t your — or your gut’s — jam, then worry not: you can make the Honey Almond Milk Flat White in your very own home, and to your own specifications. The Honey Almond Milk Flat White is basically identical to a regular Flat White, except it's made with wholesome honey syrup and frothed almond milk. These ingredients combine to form a nutty-but-sweet flavor that’s perfect for fall. Or any time of year, for that matter.

Once you’ve poured 2 shots of espresso into a mug, gently pour in the frothed almond milk. The Starbucks recipe itself recommends pouring the foam until that characteristic foam dot appears on the surface of the drink. That’s how you know it's ready to drink!

11. Matcha Tea Latte

“[Matcha] sticks onto blenders and steam wands like nothing else and it smells disgusting,” one Matcha-hating Starbucks employee wrote on Reddit. But if you absolutely adore matcha, then why don’t you make Starbucks’ Matcha Tea Latte at home? Obviously, the key to giving the springtime beverage its characteristic green hue is matcha powder. For this recipe, you’ll need at least 1 teaspoon of said powder, which you should stir into 2 ounces of hot water until it dissolves.

Or, you can buy your preferred matcha tea blend from the grocery store. And if you want to turn this sweet and savory beverage into a latte, you have to pour warm milk into the brewed matcha tea and top it off with frothed foam. You can even add honey if you like!

12. Iced Coffee Lemonade

The good people at Starbucks suggest thinking of this drink as "An Arnold Palmer with strong coffee instead of black tea." Unusual? Sure, but people thought Arnold was crazy until they tried his winning lemonade/iced tea concoction. You can start by chilling freshly-brewed coffee in the fridge for about 1½ hours. Feel free to buy lemonade from the store, which you can sweeten with a little sugar if need be.

Pour an equal amount of lemonade and chilled coffee into a glass filled with ice. If you prefer a more citrus-y flavor, then add a little more lemonade; you can do the same with the coffee if you want it to be the dominant flavor instead. Either way, stir the drink well so that the flavors are one refreshing, energizing mix.

13. The Medicine Ball

When you’re sick as a dog and surrounded by tissues, the last thing you want to do is drag yourself to Starbucks… and it’s the very last thing baristas want you to do, too. Luckily, there’s a way for you to keep people germ-free and enjoy Starbucks' famous cold-busting brew, the Medicine Ball. The Medicine Ball doesn’t actually contain antibiotics, but it contains the next best thing: hot, throat-soothing tea.

It's made from Teavana’s Peach Tranquility tea brewed with Jade Citrus Mint tea, to be exact. Add a spoonful of honey and a squeeze of lemon. Now you can reap the benefits of the Medicine Ball without actually leaving quarantine!

14. Starbucks S'mores Frappuccino

As Tasting Table claims, a S’mores Frappuccino “has more steps than a typical frappuccino,” which may be why Starbucks actually discontinued the drink a few years back. When customers revolted against the menu change, Starbucks brought the drink back. If they ever take it away again, you can make it at home! Heat 3 tablespoons of marshmallow syrup or marshmallow fluff over the stove. Blend 1 cup of ice, 1 cup of milk, and a ¼ cup of cooled strong coffee.

Add chocolate syrup and graham cracker crumbs into the mixture. Lastly, add the smooth marshmallow syrup that you heat up over the stove. Top with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs to really give it that classic “S’mores frap” look. And hopefully, it’ll taste just like Starbucks’ version!

15. Iced Cappuccino

By nature, a cappuccino is a hot drink topped with steamed milk, so making an iced version would be pretty hard to do. Maybe that’s why Starbucks discontinued the beverage years ago. On Reddit, a few former Starbucks employees confirmed that many baristas don’t know how to make the unusual drink. Other baristas, however, claimed that it’s possible to make the drink by simply tweaking a recipe for a different Starbucks beverage. Apparently, you can make an iced cappuccino from home simply by making… an iced latte.

If the main difference between a cappuccino and a latte is the distribution of steamed milk and coffee, then simply adjust the distribution of a latte to that of a cappuccino. When you serve the drink over ice, add cold foam instead of hot foam to the top.

16. Pumpkin Spice Latte

For a seasonal drink, the pumpkin spice latte seems to have supporters year-round. If you count yourself among their ranks, then try to make the famous PSL at home! To start, combine 1 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree, and 1-2 tablespoons of sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Create a mixture of ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and gradually add it to the saucepan.

Add 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract. Once the mixture has started to steam, froth the mixture until it’s perfectly creamy. Now it’s ready to be poured over a hot mug of coffee or espresso. You can also find Starbucks’ official recipe on their website!

17. Sunset Refresher

When all of the ingredients in this secret menu Starbucks drink are blended together, you get what looks like a fiery sunset in a glass. And who wouldn't want to gulp down a fruit-flavored sunset? According to Delish, you'd ask for a passion tea lemonade with a splash of peach juice and a pump of classic syrup at Starbucks, but in your own home, you'll need to brew up some passion fruit tea.

Once the tea cools, add a ½ cup of lemonade and 1-2 tablespoons of simple syrup. Fill the glass with ice, and then stir it to get that gorgeous sunset-like ombre effect. Not only does it taste divine, but it's super-easy to make, too.

18. Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso

The Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso is so popular that the research organization Study Finds claimed that it was one of the most positively reviewed beverages at Starbucks. Since it comes so highly recommended, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t try to make an IBSOMSE from the comfort of your own kitchen. First, combine brown sugar and water — both should be a ½ cup — in a small saucepan over medium heat.

In a shaker, combine 1 cup of chilled espresso with a ½ cup of oatmilk and 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar syrup you just made. After you add ice cubes to the shaker, shake vigorously for about 20 seconds. Strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice.

19. Peppermint Mocha

This surprising drink tastes like a candy cane but has the caffeinated kick of a cup of coffee. But what exactly makes the Peppermint Mocha surprising, you ask? Well, it's actually quite simple to turn a regular Peppermint Mocha into a totally different drink. To make a Peppermint Mocha, you'll need milk — any kind — cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and peppermint extract. Combine 2 tablespoons each of cocoa powder and granulated sugar. Heat — don't boil — 1 cup of milk in a saucepan and slowly whisk in the cocoa/sugar mixture.

Once you remove the saucepan from the stove, stir in a ¼ teaspoon of peppermint extract. When you pour this mixture into a mug with fresh coffee, you have a Peppermint Mocha! And all you need to do to turn this drink into a Peppermint Bark Mocha is to melt actual peppermint bark into a saucepan and then drizzle it into your mocha mixture.

20. Pink Drink

The famous Pink Drink made a hero’s journey from Starbucks’ secret menu to their regular menu, and for good reason: it’s so darn delicious! It’s the perfect drink for anyone who wants caffeine but hates the taste of coffee. Coconut milk, açaí berry juice, diced strawberries, ice cubes… you’re cooling off just thinking about these ingredients, right? Starbucks’ recipe includes Strawberry Açaí Base, which contains ingredients like natural green coffee flavor and grape juice concentrate.

For your at-home version, all you need to procure is the aforementioned Strawberry açaí juice, coconut milk, and strawberries. Combine the ingredients with your sweetener of choice and pour it into a tall glass filled with ice. The more you stir, the more your drink will take on that dreamy, creamy Pink Drink look.

21. The Caramel Apple Spice

Here's a non-coffee beverage you can sip while watching a spooky Halloween film. It's probably one of the easier recipes on this list to make from scratch, too! Well, practically from scratch: store-bought apple cider is fine as long as it's fresh. Heat 1 cup of apple cider on the stove. While it's heating up, gently warm your mug by filling it with hot water or nuking it in the microwave for a few seconds.

You'll be glad you pre-heated your mug after you pour in the apple cider! A warm mug will make it easier to fully incorporate 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce. Adding just a pinch of cinnamon and even nutmeg will give the cider an even warmer, cozier feeling. Top with cool whipped cream for a satisfyingly-sweet and spicy non-caffeinated beverage.

22. Irish Coffee

Ahh, everyone's boozy wintertime favorite! Obviously, the expense of this drink goes up once you add whiskey to the mix, but we like to think that the extra expense is well worth it. After all, this is one of the most flavorful — and fun — ways to get a buzz from both caffeine and alcohol. To make it the way a Starbucks Evenings barista would, try brewing up 4 cups of Starbucks' own Sumatra blend; non-Starbucks coffee should be fine, too.

In a tall glass, mix 4 tablespoons of brown sugar into the freshly-brewed coffee, along with, of course, 8 ounces of Irish whiskey. Adding whipped cream to the top will add some light sweetness, and a sprinkle of nutmeg will help balance out all that sugar and booze. What else would you drink on a snowy night in?

23. Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew

In order to make your own version of Starbucks' delicious Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, you need to learn how to make cold brew at home. Combine 1 cup of coarsely-ground coffee beans and 4 cups of cold water. Once the coffee grounds are saturated, cover the container with plastic wrap and let it steep overnight in the fridge. Now you have your cold brew concentrate! When your concentrate has steeped for about 12 hours, it's time to make the vanilla sweet cream.

Mix together a ½ cup of heavy cream, a ½ cup of whole milk, and 2 tablespoons each of vanilla and simple syrup. Pour your cold-brew concentrate into a tall glass and then gently pour the vanilla sweet cream on top. Are you bouncing off the walls because of the sugar or caffeine? Who knows!

24. Iced White Chocolate Mocha

The world is chock-full of milk-chocolate-lovers, and white chocolate seems to be its less-popular cousin. But if you consider yourself to be a white chocolate fan, then try making this super-sweet Starbucks drink! Unsurprisingly, the most important ingredient — aside from coffee or espresso — is white-chocolate syrup, which you can make from scratch by melting a ¼ cup of white chocolate chips in a ¼ cup of water until it's smooth.

Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour a ½ cup of cooled coffee or 1 shot of cooled espresso over the ice. Spoon a few tablespoons of white-chocolate syrup over the coffee and add a ½ cup of your preferred milk.

25. Pineapple Passionfruit Refresher

The Pineapple Passionfruit Refresher is basically golden sunshine in a tall glass! It requires quite a few ingredients in order to achieve its vacation-in-a-cup taste, which makes it the perfect drink to make on your next lazy day of summer. You need pineapple juice, passionfruit juice, coconut water, simple syrup, sparkling water or lemon-lime soda, sliced pineapple, and finally, a sprig of mint. Make a simple syrup by combining ½ cups each of water and sugar over medium heat.

Blend together ½ cups of pineapple juice and passionfruit juice, a ¼ cup of coconut water, 1 cup of ice, and 2 tablespoons of simple syrup. Keep the blender on until the ice is completely crushed. When you pour the mixture into the glass, add a ½ cup of sparkling water, a few slices of pineapple, and the sprig of mint. Phew!

26. Peaches & Cream Hot Chocolate

Some people believe that this wintertime beverage is a secret menu item, but others claim that it was available for a limited time at their local Starbucks, so who knows what the truth is? All we know is that the delectable Peaches & Cream Hot Chocolate is easy enough to make at home. You can use either fresh peaches or canned peach puree, depending on what you have on hand.

Put 2 cups of whole milk over medium heat, and then stir in a ½ cup of white chocolate chips until the mixture is rich and smooth. While stirring, add a ¼ cup of peach puree. Adding a ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract will help sweeten the beverage even further, and so will allowing the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes.

27. Mexican Coffee

If your morning coffee could use an additional kick, we have good news: you probably have all of the ingredients you need for Mexican Coffee in your spice cabinet. Brew up a fresh cup of coffee, and while it's still hot, add a pinch of cinnamon, a drizzle of chocolate syrup or a sprinkling of cocoa powder, and stir until the spices are fully incorporated. Take frequent sips of your drink to make sure the cinnamon-chocolate-coffee ratio is to your liking.

If you want a slightly sweeter flavor, add a little sugar. To thicken the coffee a bit, heat up your milk of choice and whisk it to create a froth. Pour the froth into your coffee, add some cooling whipped cream, and voila! To follow Starbucks' own recipe, add additional pinches of nutmeg and cayenne.

28. Salted Caramel Café Au Lait

Calling all sweet-tooths! Sweet-teeth? Whatever you call yourself, this Starbucks beverage is any sugar-lover's dream-come-true. From dark chocolate to caramel to toffee to whipped cream, no one is walking away from this drink without a spring in their step. Start by drizzling dark-chocolate sauce into your coffee cup, then brew up your favorite flavor of coffee. In a saucepan, heat your preferred type of milk until it's hot, but not boiling.

Add salted toffee or caramel syrup to your coffee; 1 or 2 teaspoons should be enough. Back at the milk, whisk it up until it's nice and frothy. Now pour the milk into the coffee. You can top your sweet creation with whipped cream, caramel sauce, and a sprinkle of sea salt.

29. Golden Turmeric Latte

Some health nuts believe that turmeric has healing properties, so why not make this vibrant drink at home? Start by raiding your spice cabinet for a ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon, a ¼ teaspoon of ginger, a pinch of black pepper, a pinch of nutmeg, and, of course, a ½ teaspoon of turmeric. Mix the spices, except for the nutmeg and pepper, in a small bowl. Brew one cup of light roast coffee or espresso.

Heat — don't boil — 1 cup of your preferred type of milk in a small saucepan. As the milk heats up, whisk in your spices. Add a ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract for additional sweetness. When the ingredients are fully mixed, pour the milk mixture over your coffee until you have a golden latte that will instantly warm you up.

30. Americano Con Crema

Now you can bring the classic Americano to new heights by giving it a zesty, citrusy kick! To make an Americano Con Crema at home, it's best if you have an espresso machine, though it should still taste great with regular coffee. Once brewed, pour the espresso or coffee into a large mug. Add a few squirts of orange syrup to the beverage, then fill the coffee mug with hot water, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top.

On the stove, heat up a small saucepan of heavy cream. Once hot but not boiling, gently drop a spoonful of cream onto your Americano. You can sprinkle the top with sugar and even add an orange peel for additional deliciousness.
