After Kylie Jenner Broke Up With Travis Scott, Her Grandma Revealed What Really Happened

If you’ve never heard of Esther Jenner before, that’s perhaps not too surprising. After all, Esther’s upbringing was poles apart from that of the world-famous family she would later become a part of. The nonagenarian was raised on a tiny farm by a family who grew their own vegetables and looked after chickens and cows. But her path changed in 1949, when she gave birth to then-Bruce Jenner in the New York village of Mount Kisco.

Jenner would go on to become a household name in the United States after winning a gold medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Sadly, though, the decathlon was closely followed by a family tragedy. Just three months after the Olympics, in fact, Burt Jenner – Esther’s second son with arborist husband William – lost his life in an automobile accident in Connecticut.

Of course, the family would later enjoy a new lease of life in the 21st century as one of the stars of reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Not that Esther can understand its appeal. In 2019 she even told MailOnline, “I wasn’t fond of that program. There was no plot, and why it was such a hit I’ll never know, and I guess it still is.”

In the midst of Kardashian-mania, too, Esther watched her beloved son Bruce transition into a woman named Caitlyn. She coped with this radical change well, however, telling MailOnline, “It’s nothing [Caitlyn] asked for. It’s a condition, and it starts in the mother’s womb.”

And that isn’t the only time that Esther has discussed her family life with a British publication. In 2019, you see, she happily opened up to The Sun Online about her granddaughter Kylie Jenner’s split from then-boyfriend Travis Scott. So here’s a look at the pair’s turbulent relationship and why, according to Esther, they decided to separate.

In April 2017 Kylie first sparked rumors that she was dating Travis when the pair were pictured cozying up to each other at Coachella. And later that same month she joined sister Kendall at the rapper’s birthday bash in New York. Then, in May, Kylie kept Travis company as he traveled the United States on his “Birds Eye View” tour.

But the couple appeared to make things official in June 2017 when they got matching tattoos. Yes, Kylie and Travis both showed off their newly inked legs to their armies of followers on Snapchat. The tats featured tiny butterflies because Travis had previously recorded a track named “Butterfly Effect” – which is said to be about the reality TV star.

Things then got even more serious in September that year when talk emerged about the pitter-patter of tiny feet. Us Weekly in fact reported that Kylie was four months pregnant at the time. And the publication’s story checked out when, in February 2018, the beauty mogul gave birth to Stormi Webster.

So everything appeared to be rosy in the wake of the couple’s new arrival – and not just in their personal lives. Kylie later graced the front cover of the “American’s Women Billionaires” edition of Forbes magazine. And alongside an image of the issue, Travis posted three heart-shaped emojis on Twitter with the caption, “Can’t be more proud.”

Then, in August 2018, the couple opened up to GQ magazine in their first shared interview. Kylie revealed how their relationship started in the wake of their meeting at Coachella too. She recalled, “So he said, ‘I’m going back on tour – what do we want to do about this?’ Because we obviously liked each other. And I was like, ‘I guess I’m going with you.’ I really jumped on the bus. And then we rode off into the sunset.”

“We got to not be who we really were,” continued Kylie. “Like, if we were in L.A., I feel like it would’ve been way different. Everything happened for a reason. We weren’t going out as ‘Kylie and Trav.’ We would just be in Cleveland, walking the street for hours. We would go on walks, and no one would bother us.”

The A-listers then made their personal relationship a professional one when Kylie briefly guested in the promo for Travis’ single, “Stop Trying to Be God.” Holding a lamb and dressed in a gown adorned with sequins, the reality star portrayed the Virgin Mary in the attention-grabbing clip.

But in December 2018 a chaos-causing YouTuber attempted to throw a spanner in the works. Posing as Travis, Christian Adam G filmed himself kissing a girl who definitely wasn’t Kylie. Fortunately, though, the prank didn’t have the desired effect. The rapper later tweeted, “Try again you trolls. Me and my wifey sturdy. Back to [celebrating]!”

Yet Kylie was more fearful than defiant in her response. She took to Instagram to say, “[I don’t know] if this is really a social experiment to some people, but you’re messing with real people, real relationships, real family. I’m happy my relationship is strong because this is getting out of hand. The internet scares me sometimes for real.”

So the pair managed to overcome that scare, and in December 2018 the sound of wedding bells appeared to be just around the corner. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Travis said, “We’ll get married soon. I just gotta sturdy up; I gotta propose in a fire way.”

But just two months later, the couple were forced to deal with yet more infidelity rumors. And this time there appeared to be some substance behind the claims. Travis even canceled a gig to deal with the supposed fallout after Kylie reportedly found evidence that the rapper had been unfaithful.

An unnamed insider had reportedly told gossip magazine Us Weekly that Kylie had found messages that Travis had sent to other girls on Instagram. And the contents of these alleged messages apparently weren’t “exactly appropriate.” A representative for the rapper quickly denied that the show cancelation had been due to any relationship problems, though.

And on the surface, things still appeared to be hunky-dory with the couple. In April 2019, for instance, the pair and daughter Stormi all wore Marvel outfits in aid of Travis’ birthday. Later that month, too, Kylie gushed on Instagram, “Watching you evolve into the partner, friend, son and father you are today has been so fulfilling. My real-life bestie and hubby all wrapped into one. I love you, and I’m so so proud of you. Let’s f*** around and have another baby.”

And the couple certainly seemed keen to try for a second baby – judging by their joint interview with Playboy in September 2019. A candid Kylie told the magazine, “A lot of people claim that having a baby can hurt your sex life. But I feel like that’s the opposite of our experience.”

Yet things appeared to go awry shortly after the publication of their revealing chat with Playboy. For just a month later, Kylie and Travis reportedly decided on a conscious uncoupling. Another anonymous insider apparently told Us Weekly, “Kylie still loves Travis, and this isn’t considered a full break-up to either of them.”

The plot thickened, however, when Kylie was then seen alongside her ex-boyfriend Tyga at a Los Angeles recording studio. The socialite quickly took to Twitter to explain, “The internet makes everything 100 times more dramatic than what it really is... You see me drop two of my friends off at a studio that he happened to be at. Travis and I are on great terms, and our main focus right now is Stormi! Our friendship and our daughter is priority.”

The couple also appeared to put their differences behind them for the sake of their daughter when they spent Thanksgiving weekend together in Palm Springs. But online rumors continued to persist that Kylie had already moved on to another rap star. And this time around it was chart-topper Drake who was connected with the reality TV icon.

In fact, Drake and Kylie first got people talking when they had been spotted at a party around Halloween. A “source” told Us Weekly, “They were affectionate and clearly there together.” Another alleged insider apparently said that although Kylie appeared to have found a new love, Travis had “no ill will to any of Kylie’s friends.”

Travis further suggested he was taking a mature approach to the split in a chat for the winter 2019 issue of XXL Magazine. After gushing over daughter Stormi, he said, “I love her mommy, and I always will... The hard part about relationships is just trying to be in one without a million outside voices interfering.”

So speculation about what had been behind Kylie and Travis’ split has continued to grow online ever since it’d happened. But one particular person very close to Kylie claims that she knows the number-one reason. Yes, in November 2019 Kylie’s grandma Esther Jenner spilled the beans in an interview with The Sun Online.

Then 93 years old, Esther told the British publication that her granddaughter had called her in the wake of her split from Travis. Kylie then apparently revealed on the phone that the rumors about their separation were true. The reality star also seemingly confirmed that the couple still both had Stormi’s best interests at heart.

Speaking from her home in the Idaho area of Lewiston, Esther revealed that she and her granddaughter remain close. She said, “Kylie and I keep in touch, we both have iPhones and FaceTime. She puts the baby on the FaceTime, and I can see her progress. She’s a darling little child.”

Esther then went on to talk about the moment they discussed the split. She added, “I was sympathizing with Kylie a short time ago about the break-up with the baby’s father. Kylie just smoothed over it real quickly: ‘We’re both going to be good parents to her,’ like in defence almost.”

And Esther believes she knows exactly why the celebrity pair decided to call it a day. She told The Sun Online that if Travis had shown more of a commitment to the relationship, then things could possibly have been different. She also acknowledged, “That’s what happens really, so often.”

Esther added, “Young people today, they think they can live together, start a family together, without being married, it doesn’t work! I don’t know.” And Esther sure knows all about the institution of marriage. She was wed to husband – and Caitlyn’s father – William right up until his death in 2000, after all.

Despite her apparent insight into her granddaughter’s break-up, though, Esther revealed that she’d never actually met Travis. And from the sounds of it, she’s far more impressed with another name from the hip-hop world. She told The Sun Online, “I tell you who I was surprised I liked so much... Kanye. He’s very intelligent, and he’s down to earth.”

Neither Kylie nor Travis responded to Esther’s claims around the true reason behind their separation. However, the latter did appear to reference the split in a song he released in the final week of 2019. And it perhaps backs up Esther’s statement that Travis hadn’t been ready to commit.

In the track “Gatti,” Travis raps, “Duck away, she wanna lay up and hibernate... I took a chance, it’s a lot to take.” This arguably suggests that Kylie had indeed wanted to settle down and that Travis – despite his previous comments to Rolling Stone – hadn’t been ready to take the plunge.

According to Hollywood Life, though, Travis still holds out some hope that he will be able to patch things up with Kylie. Yet another supposed insider allegedly told the gossip site that the rapper has become aggrieved whenever anyone refers to the one-time lovebirds as friends. Apparently, this particular F word makes the break-up even more real for the hip-hop star.

The source reportedly added, “[Travis] wants so much more and feels like he is so much more, regardless of where [Kylie’s] head is at. Going into 2020, he will still be the one chasing. Even if [it] ends up being a friendship over a relationship, he still hates that label.”

As for Kylie, it’s fair to say that the end of 2019 wasn’t particularly kind to her. The socialite even began her New Year celebrations by reflecting on the various ups and downs of the previous 12 months. On her Instagram feed, in fact, Kylie revealed that she had suffered a nasty injury around the same time as the split with Travis.

It turned out that in early November Kylie had somehow ended up cracking her wrist in not just one, but two different places. The reality TV star subsequently had to sport a fetching blue brace to support her thumb and wrist. This actually explained why she had been wearing the brace during an image of a night out shortly after the incident.

Interestingly, Kylie had been rumored to have spent some time in hospital just two months before cracking her wrist. The beauty mogul had reportedly suffered from symptoms associated with the flu, such as dizziness and nausea. Thankfully, though, she evidently made a full recovery – as she did with her wrist injury, too.

Kylie also appeared to reference all of her drama in the Instagram post that she uploaded on New Year’s Eve. She captioned a black and white photo of herself, “Happy New Year’s Eve. When you start to feel like things should have been better this year, remember all the mountains and valleys that got you here. There is more to you than yesterday.” Kylie concluded, “2020 positive vibes only.”

Her 2020 wasn't great, but by May 2021, there were more developments in her relationship with Travis. "They love each other," a source told People. "They enjoy spending family time with Stormi. They all travel together. Kylie and Travis also have date nights. They have worked hard to create a family situation that's best for them. Being together 24/7 doesn't work, so they still have separate homes."
