Here’s What Your Favorite 'Dallas' Stars Are Up To Since The Show Wrapped

Remember Dallas? “Phenomenon” isn’t even the right word to describe it. The smash soap opera began in 1978 and instantly captivated audiences with its tales of the Ewings and their oil empire. Even famously silly plot twists couldn’t dampen the show’s appeal as the epic got bigger and better. Dallas finally ended in 1991, but its cast members remain beloved by TV fans everywhere. So here’s where they all ended up after the last episode aired.

40. Patrick Duffy

Patrick Duffy played Bobby Ewing, the younger brother in the Ewing family. You might remember his involvement in the most notorious plot twist in Dallas’ history. Bobby was supposed to have died in a 1985 episode, but the following year it turned out his death was all a dream.

Yes, really. Duffy even returned to the part of Bobby in the 2012 series reboot. And he’s still acting today, with another juicy soap role in The Bold and the Beautiful.

39. Larry Hagman

Before Dallas came along, Larry Hagman was best known for the role of Major Anthony Nelson in I Dream of Jeannie. But afterward, he was forever associated with J.R. Ewing.

He was even still portraying the legendary villain in the rebooted Dallas when he passed away in 2012. Many of his Dallas colleagues paid tribute to him on social media and remembered him fondly.

38. Linda Gray

Linda Gray played Sue Ellen, J.R.’s wife, in a whopping 308 episodes of Dallas. When the show finished she did a couple of other soap operas — Melrose Place as well as The Bold and Beautiful — before returning to the part of Sue Ellen for the reboot.

Her acting career is ongoing, with many TV guest spots and parts in made-for-television films, though her personal life hasn’t always been easy. In 2020 she revealed that her son Jeff, 56, had passed away.

37. Priscilla Presley

You might not remember, but the ex-wife of Elvis also turned up in Dallas. She played Jenna Wade, Bobby’s ex-lover who goes on to hook up with him again when he and his wife split up.

Of course, the part of Jenna was a relatively small one in terms of Presley’s overall career. She remains a household name today, and one who’s still frequently appearing on television. The 2023 movie Priscilla thrust her into the limelight once more.

36. Barbara Bel Geddes

Oscar-nominated performer Barbara Bel Geddes played Miss Ellie for all but one season of Dallas – in 1984 she’d had a cardiac operation, so Donna Reed took on the part temporarily.

She gave up acting once Dallas was over and became a painter instead. After a stellar career in the arts, Bel Geddes passed away at the age of 82 in 2005.

35. Omri Katz

Omri Katz was one of the talented child actors who starred in Dallas. He portrayed John Ross Ewing III, the son of Sue Ellen and J.R., for a decade from 1983. But like many kid stars who found big success early, he didn’t stick around in the performing business.

Though he went on to add some big productions on his CV, including Eerie, Indiana, and Hocus Pocus, he’s now a Los Angeles-based hairstylist. He's also dipped his toes into the growing cannabis industry.

34. Ken Kercheval

Who doesn't love a good rivalry? Ken Kercheval played J.R.’s nemesis Cliff Barnes, who had the distinction of being the only other male character apart from J.R. himself to appear in every season of Dallas.

He remained a familiar face on television after the original Dallas ended and appeared in the rebooted version as well, but his legions of fans mourned when he passed away at age 83 in 2019.

33. Charlene Tilton

Charlene Tilton’s Lucy Ewing was one of the most memorable characters on the show. And Tilton’s eventful personal life — particularly her chaotic relationship with country music star Johnny Lee — kept her and Dallas in the newspapers as well.

After the soap opera came to an end, Tilton tried her hand at some different careers, including singing. In recent years, she’s emerged as a passionate campaigner for autism awareness.

32. Audrey Landers

Audrey Landers was the unforgettable woman who played Afton Cooper, who served as a love interest to Cliff. She was a bit of a pin-up icon in her time, even posing for Playboy at one point.

She’s not in the spotlight quite as much these days, though she has her own clothing brand and appeared in the Dallas reboot — plus she still looks great. If only we could all age so well!

31. Steve Kanaly

Steve Kanaly portrayed Ray Krebbs, Jock Ewing’s illegitimate child, meaning that his character, unfortunately, turned out to be the uncle of Lucy — whom he’d been dating. Soap operas, eh?

Kanaly’s another actor who opted to return for the rebooted Dallas series, but he hasn’t done a lot of non-Dallas acting work since the original show ended. His last credited role came in 2014, and Kanaly has embarked on a new career as an artist.

30. Victoria Principal

Victoria Principal was Pamela Barnes Ewing, the wife of Bobby. She was already well-known before she was cast, thanks in no small part to an appearance in Playboy magazine and a relationship with Frank Sinatra. She also founded her own health and beauty brands.

And while her character may have been part of an oil company, Principal herself turned out to be an environmentalist. She’s done a lot of important work in recent years, including giving money to help with the response to the 2010 Gulf Coast oil disaster.

29. Howard Keel

Howard Keel lived through poverty as a youngster before making it in Hollywood. He appeared in hit big-screen musicals including Kiss Me Kate and Show Boat before, in later life, he was cast as Clayton Farlow in Dallas.

Keel played the part from 1981 to 1991, but only appeared in a few roles after Dallas wrapped its original run. His first love was always music, and he maintained a career as a singer until his death in 2004.

28. Jim Davis

Sadly, Jock Ewing actor Jim Davis passed before the end of Dallas. During the fourth season, he contracted cancer and his condition steadily deteriorated. At some points during the show, he had to wear a wig to conceal the hair loss caused by his treatment.

Following his death in 1981, the show killed off his character in an offscreen helicopter crash. A painting of Davis was placed at the Southfork set as a tribute.

27. Susan Howard

Susan Howard wasn’t actually meant to be a major player in Dallas. But the show creators loved her performance as Donna Culver so much that they wrote her into more and more episodes.

And she later got to pen some of her own, too, in the ninth and tenth seasons. She hasn’t had an acting credit since 1993, though, preferring to focus her attention on political work, which began in part with a co-hosting stint on The 700 Club.

26. Jenilee Harrison

Jenilee Harrison played Jamie Ewing Barnes, the only character on Dallas to die not once, but twice. Initially, she met her demise in an exploding automobile — though that turned out to be just a dream — and then she died in a climbing accident.

Harrison herself is still very much alive, but she’s moved away from the acting world — her last screen role was in 2002. Apparently, she has done a bit of racecar driving in recent years.

25. Deborah Rennard

Actress Deborah Rennard played Sly Lovegren, J.R. Ewing’s magnificently named secretary. She continued to act after Dallas and was in another soap, Day of Our Lives. But she switched careers in the 1990s and primarily became a stage producer.

She also still sometimes works with her ex-husband, the Oscar-winning writer-director Paul Haggis, and has gotten back into the occasional acting gig, highlighted by a guest spot on Law & Order.

24. Sheree J. Wilson

In 1986 Sheree J. Wilson was cast as April Stevens in Dallas, and she went on to become one of the show’s most popular characters. No doubt many fans were disappointed when she was shot and killed while on her honeymoon.

However, Wilson had asked to quit the show when she learned that she was pregnant. It didn’t hurt her career, though, as she’s still acting to this day. She had a main role in Walker, Texas Ranger and headlined a stage production of Driving Miss Daisy.

23. Deborah Tranelli

Deborah Tranelli played Phyllis Wapner, personal assistant to Bobby Ewing, on Dallas from 1981 to 1991. But her life went in a different direction after that breakthrough part. She turned to singing, appearing in multiple musicals including Hairspray and Hereafter.

She’s still doing the same thing today, to critical acclaim, as well as performing in concerts. You might even see her pop up on a New York stage these days.

22. Joshua Harris

Child actor Joshua Harris played Christopher, Pam and Bobby Ewing’s adopted child — and the biological son of Kristin Shepard — in Dallas. But that’s not a grown-up Harris playing Christopher in the reboot series.

The showrunners went with actor Jesse Metcalfe instead. Harris doesn’t act anymore, in fact, and instead runs a production firm named 4th Wall Entertainment. One of his more prominent producer credits came on the reality series Duck Dynasty.

21. Roseanna Christiansen

Theresa, the housemaid of the Ewings, was portrayed by Roseanna Christiansen. She may not be the best-known character from Dallas, but she definitely has her fans. The character stuck around for nine seasons, after all.

Plenty of people think she should’ve appeared in the rebooted series as well. Christiansen continued to act here and there until she passed away in 2022. She was 71 years old.

20. Shalane McCall

Shalene McCall joined Dallas when she was a mere nine years old. She portrayed Charlie, the daughter of Priscilla Presley’s character Jenna. McCall was in the series for half a decade, but after that, she dropped out of the entertainment industry entirely.

She reportedly continues to reside in California and is hopefully living her best life away from the publicity that dominated so much of her childhood. McCall did briefly make headlines in January 2023 when her Dallas co-star and ex-boyfriend, Brad Pitt, said he filmed his favorite sex scene with her.

19. George Kennedy

Here's a familiar face for you! Oscar-winner George Kennedy appeared in more than 100 movies and TV shows, so naturally, he popped up in Dallas. He was Carter McKay, one of the main villains of the show.

That was only one role in a long career, of course. He is best remembered for scene-stealing roles in Cool Hand Luke and the Naked Gun films, and Kennedy kept acting until the end. When he passed away in 2016, many fans posted their condolences.

18. Cathy Podewell

The initial plan had been for Cathy Podewell, who portrayed Cally Harper Ewing, to appear in a handful of episodes of the series. But the show-runners and her co-star Larry Hagman were so taken by Podewell that they decided she’d become a regular character.

Podewell and Hagman actually remained good pals right up until his passing. You might have spotted Podewell reprise her role as Cally in the rebooted Dallas series, too.

17. Deborah Shelton

After winning the crown of Miss U.S.A., Deborah Shelton played Mandy Winger, the lover of J.R. Ewing. She was in more than 60 episodes of Dallas in all. But she didn't exactly catapult to fame afterward.

She’s said that as soon as she became older the good roles began to dry up. Shelton did, though, reprise her role as Mandy in 2013 in the revived Dallas show.

16. Morgan Brittany

Former child actress Morgan Brittany portrayed Katherine Wentworth, Pamela and Cliff’s half-sister, on Dallas. The starlet had a nice resume to land her that job, including spots on Gunsmoke and Gypsy. She was in a couple of big shows after the soap opera, including Melrose Place.

She stopped acting in the 2000s and now spends most of her time as a political commentator and writer. She is also the co-owner of the online right-wing news outlet PolitiChicks.

15. Sasha Mitchell

From 1989 to 1991, Sasha Mitchell played J.R. Ewing’s illegitimate child James Beaumont. He was in more than 40 episodes in all, and as soon as he left Dallas he got another big break.

Mitchell was cast as the lead in the Kickboxer franchise, following Jean-Claude van Damme’s departure. His real-life taekwondo skills made him a no-brainer for the part. He’s still acting today, but those martial arts movies might be what Mitchell’s best known for.

14. Priscilla Pointer

Here are some wild showbiz connections: Priscilla Pointer is the mom of actress Amy Irving and one-time mother-in-law of Steven Spielberg. She was in Dallas as well! She played Rebecca Wentworth, who was the mother of Pamela Ewing and Cliff Barnes.

Poor Rebecca had a dramatic exit from the show, dying from wounds sustained in an aircraft accident. But Pointer kept acting right up until the late 2000s before entering a well-deserved retirement.

13. Jack Scalia

The handsome Jack Scalia was a pretty big star back in his day. Playing Nicholas Pierce on Dallas was just one small part of his career. Scalia was in multiple hit TV shows, Remington Steele and All My Children among them.

In more recent years you might also have spotted him on Parks and Recreation or Revolution. When he's away from the camera, Scalia is a tireless advocate for wounded veterans.

12. Mary Crosby

Mary Crosby, the daughter of the legendary Bing Crosby, played one of the most important roles in Dallas history. She was Kristin Shepard, the character who shot J.R. in one of the series' most iconic episodes.

The episode that revealed her as the culprit had one of the biggest audiences in television history. She doesn’t act so much anymore but instead focuses on managing her father’s musical legacy.

11. Christopher Atkins

Christopher Atkins, a teen idol of the early 1980s and a star of The Blue Lagoon, played Peter Richards on Dallas from 1983 to 1984. And he was cast specifically because of his status as someone girls would swoon over.

Unfortunately, as he got older his star faded considerably, though he’s still acting. He's also gotten into the luxury pool business — that's a different kind of blue lagoon! — and developed the Christopher Atkins Strike Jacket E.F.L. (Extreme Fishing Lure).

10. Alice Hirson

While Alice Hirson may not be a household name, you’ve almost definitely seen her in something. There was Dallas, of course, in which she played the recurring character of Mavis Anderson.

She also portrayed Ellen DeGeneres’ mother on Ellen, was a voice in the game Skyrim, and was on the show 7th Heaven for ten years. Her most recent acting credits include a 2019 episode of Will & Grace and a voice part in the animated Trash Truck.

9. Barbara Carrera

Barbara Carrera is known best as a Bond Girl. She was Fatima Blush in the 1983’s Never Say Never Again and got a Golden Globe nomination for her fiery performance.

Not long after that, she was cast as the businesswoman Angelica Nero in Dallas. You won’t see much of Carrera on television today, though, as she now works as an artist.

8. Lois Chiles

Lois Chiles was yet another Bond girl who appeared in Dallas! Before being cast as Holly Harwood in the soap opera she played another Holly, Dr. Holly Goodhead, in the Roger Moore Bond film Moonraker.

In the years since she’s been in the likes of CSI and Speed 2: Cruise Control, though she hasn’t acted since 2006, when she appeared in the rom-com Kettle of Fish.

7. Barry Jenner

Actor Barry Jenner had a long and prolific career. Arguably his work on Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Family Matters are what he’s best known for. But he played Dr. Jerry Kenderson in Dallas for more than 20 episodes.

Sadly, he passed away in 2016 at the age of 75 from acute myeloid leukemia. His dedication to his craft never wavered, and he remained active right up until the end.

6. Donna Reed

Barbara Bel Geddes departed Dallas in 1984, apparently because of ill health. So the producers had to quickly get someone in to replace her as Miss Ellie. They chose TV veteran Donna Reed, and then some behind-the-scenes drama came along.

Bel Geddes was reportedly so distraught at someone else playing Miss Ellie that she decided to return to the show, meaning that Reed had to leave. She wasn’t happy about it but we may never hear the full story, as sadly Reed passed away in 1986.

5. Leigh Taylor-Young

Leigh Taylor-Young played Kimberly Cryder, another woman in J.R. Ewing’s long line of conquests. She was already a soap opera star when she was cast, having been on Peyton Place back in the 1960s.

And she loved her experience in Dallas — Taylor-Young has written on her website about how much fun she had filming her scenes. The TV star later won an Emmy for the series Picket Fences.

4. Tina Louise

Tina Louise was already well-known from Gilligan’s Island and The Stepford Wives when she was cast in Dallas. She did five episodes as Julie Grey, J.R. Ewing’s secretary who disclosed confidential information to his rivals and ended up plummeting to her death.

Louise is still active today and is the only surviving member of the Gilligan’s Island cast. Even in her old age, she still pops up in movies every now and again.

3. Barbara Eden

With Larry Hagman playing such a major role in Dallas, it only made sense for his frequent collaborator Barbara Eden to be cast at some point, right? Well, it took a while for that wish to come true.

Hagman’s I Dream of Jeannie colleague popped up for a handful of episodes in the final season of the show as Lee Ann De La Vega. It was far from her last role, and she’s still acting to this day.

2. Ian McShane

Before Ian McShane’s current run of blockbuster fame, he was in Dallas. The character actor portrayed Don Lockwood, the man Sue Ellen Ewing married in season 12. That stint lasted for 13 episodes.

These days, however, you might recognize him instead from Deadwood, Game of Thrones, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, or the John Wick films. He's a Golden Globe winner who seems to pop up in everything.

1. Brad Pitt

Yep, none other than future international megastar Brad Pitt was in Dallas back in the day. Before he became mega-famous, the young performer played Randy, the love interest of Charlotte Wade, for a few episodes from 1987 and 1988.

He portrayed a character so unimportant he didn’t even get a last name – but look at him now! He's one of Hollywood's most respected actors and producers, and he tacked on an Oscar to his resume after a captivating turn in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
