Brooke Shields' Daughter Wore Her Mom's Dress To Prom – And The Resemblance Is Just Uncanny

Brooke Shields is the epitome of Hollywood glamor. And when it comes to her children, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. When the actress’ daughter Rowan went to prom, she wore a tribute to her mom’s signature look. The family resemblance was so astounding that jaws dropped when she revealed her dress.

Dedicated film fans will need no introduction to Brooke, but younger viewers may not recognize the name. Well, she’s no stranger to the big screen, that’s for sure. Brooke got her breakthrough role at just 12 with the 1978 hit Pretty Baby, which caused quite a stir.

Brooke’s debut dealt with some difficult subject matter relating to a topic largely avoided even today. Sensitive themes aside though, the movie was a success, and next she starred in a big hit. Are you familiar with the 1980’s adventure romance Blue Lagoon? A young Brooke was one of the leads.

It isn’t just movies that Brooke’s famous for, either. She’s also had several roles on the small screen. For example, she was the lead actress in a sitcom called Suddenly Susan. And a 15-year-old Brooke acted as a jeans model for Calvin Klein’s ad campaign in the 1980s. She even had her own tagline.

You might even recognize Brooke’s name from one of her books. She’s written several, one of which ‒ 2008’s Welcome to Your World, Baby ‒ was a kids’ book. Her others are largely memoirs, such as 2005’s Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression.

That brings us to Rowan, Brooke’s first child. After an unsuccessful marriage to tennis star Andre Agassi ended in 1999, the actress remarried a couple of years later. Her husband’s writer and producer Chris Henchy, and this romance has stood the test of time. But it hasn’t all been smooth sailing, as Brooke’s aforementioned memoir title indicates.

The couple made no secrets about the difficulties they had conceiving children and have been frank regarding their reliance on fertility treatments. Ultimately, though, Brooke and Chris were successful and welcomed two girls into the world. First came Rowan in 2003, and then Grier arrived three years later.

After her battle with postpartum depression, Brooke’s now got the family of her dreams. She’s obviously proud of them, too, as her social media activity proves. The actress’ Instagram account is filled to bursting with candid family photos that she’s shared with followers. Brooke’s captured some lovely moments with her kids as well.

For example, on Mother’s Day in 2020 Brooke shared an older photo of herself with Rowan and Grier. The three of them were enjoying time at the beach, smiling happily into the camera despite the apparently windy weather. Beside the shot Brooke, commented, “I love being your mama. Happy Mother’s Day!”

The family have shared other vacation pics, too, such as the one Brooke uploaded back in 2018. Her entire household was present for this photo. They all posed together during what looks like a hiking trip for a touching bonding moment. The comment reads, “Family time with a view.” And what a view it is.

Nor is it just childhood moments that Brooke’s uploaded. There are more recent milestones from her daughters’ lives on her Instagram account. One family pic from 2020 is a good example of just how fast Brooke and Chris’ little girls are growing up. The comment’s short but full of emotion. It simply reads, “Thankful for them.”

While the past 12 months have been a bit challenging for public events, it was still a big year for Rowan. Why was that, you ask? Well, because she both graduated and showcased her musical talent when she played guitar at the celebrations. When Brooke posted a pic, a viewer commented, “Oh my goodness, she is so talented.”

It isn’t just Rowan’s talent that’s been surprising fans, either ‒ the young woman’s resemblance to her mother is astonishing. That’s perhaps never been more obvious than it was at Rowan’s 2021 graduation. And to understand why, let's take a look at Brooke’s appearance at the 1998 Golden Globes

At the time, Brooke’s show Suddenly Susan was in full swing and the actress was firmly in the spotlight. So much so, in fact, that Brooke found herself in the running for the Best Television Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series award at the Golden Globes. As a result of the nomination, Brooke attended the ceremony in a stunning dress.

Brooke wowed fans when she showcased a strapless red dress with a matching wrap. It was an iconic look back then, and now Rowan’s proving that it’s apparently timeless. That’s because she paid tribute to her mother by wearing the very same dress for her 2021 prom. Albeit with a few changes, of course.

Rowan personalized the outfit with a few of her own touches. She opted out of the red throw and accessorized with a small black clutch purse and white corsage instead. But she still left fans speechless by how much she looked like her mother. And Rowan herself seemed perfectly aware of the resemblance.

The rising star posed for a photo with her mother, further accentuating their likeness. In addition, Rowan was also pictured with her hands on her hips, in a callback to Brooke’s classic 1998 Golden Globes appearance. So what did Brooke herself think about her daughter’s tribute? She wrote about it on Instagram with the accompanying pictures.

Brooke wrote, “I thought it was a special night when I was nominated for a Golden Globe and wore this dress in 1998. But nothing could have prepared me to see my daughter wearing it to her prom. Proud mama!” Her daughter seems comfortable in front of the camera, probably thanks Brooke’s to body-positivity talks.

In 2019, Brooke revealed her parenting style during an interview with People. “Their bodies are so important to them,” she said on the subject of her daughters, “Whatever you say is heard, so you have to really be careful how you say whatever it is you’re saying to girls in particular.”

The actress also spoke to Porter about the same subject in 2018. “They’re so much more mature than I was,” she said. “So much more confident in their own bodies. They have the same stubbornness and strength that I do, but are more well-adjusted. I am jealous as all hell about that. But, of course, I created it.”
