Celebrities Whose Bizarre Behavior During Lockdown Got Everyone Talking

We all had moments during lockdown that made us wonder if we were losing our minds. But we probably didn’t feel the need to record these wobbles and post them online. Or if we did, we hopefully didn’t have millions of followers there to see them. Well, these 40 celebrities made both of those errors – so enjoy their bizarre behavior and be glad you didn’t share your own. Unless you did...

40. Kate Nash picked up an old hobby

You might remember having to learn to play the recorder at school. Or perhaps your children are currently screeching their way through the same lessons. Either way, lockdown wouldn’t inspire you to pick up such an annoying instrument. And that’s why you’re not Kate Nash – she has been playing since the world shut down. Mute button someone?

39. Armie Hammer got his hands on clippers

Did you give yourself a bad lockdown haircut? If so, you might want to keep scrolling – because seeing this look up close might bring back some painful memories. Otherwise, take a good few seconds to really take in Armie Hammer’s lockdown hairstyle. It’s truly something.

38. Ali Wong didn’t wash her hair very often

Comedian Ali Wong wasn’t too proud to admit that her mane-related hygiene had fallen out of whack during lockdown. This picture is post-wash, but the story she shared about the picture is… terrifying. She wrote on Instagram, “Yesterday I took out my top knot and a moth flew out of my hair and then I screamed and knocked over a glass of tequila [...] and then I decided it was time to finally shampoo.”

37. Olly Murs juggled toilet paper

The rest of the world battled for containers of toilet paper, but it’s clear that Olly Murs had plenty. That’s the only explanation as to why he decided to grab a cylinder and use it to practice his soccer skills. His game of keepy-uppy ended after eight kicks, but it was a valiant effort. Maybe bounce it less on your foot and more on your...next time Olly.

36. Kristen Bell filmed her fight with Dax Shepard

Every couple argues, especially when it comes to the TV remote – where has it gone, and why did you lose it? Most of us wouldn’t film these mini quarrels, but Kristen Bell turned the camera on during her back-and-forth with husband, Dax Shepard. Then she posted it to Instagram for the world to see, because what else would a celeb do during lockdown?

35. Ariana Grande and her friends remade a classic

What do former high school theater kids do during a pandemic? They continue to put on a show, of course. Ariana Grande and her friends, Elizabeth Gillies and Alfredo Flores, decided to do a Zoom-recorded remake of the 1998 classic comedy, The Waterboy. Eat your heart out, Adam Sandler.

34. Will Smith chiseled some green screen abs

Why is Will Smith hanging out with Jason Derulo? That’s the first of many questions that pop up during this video that the Men In Black star posted to his Instagram. The second would probably be, what possessed him to film this clip of himself using a green screen to fake lift weights? The answer has to be lockdown boredom…but it was still pretty funny.

33. Neil Diamond re-wrote a classic

In normal times Neil Diamond probably wouldn’t have touched his classic song, “Sweet Caroline.” But lockdown inspired the crooner to rewrite a few of the lyrics so they applied to the pandemic. In a video posted to Twitter, he sang, “Hands… washing hands, reaching out… don’t touch me, I won’t touch you!” This sentiment certainly fit the era, but it does ruin the romanticism of the song a bit.

32. Kelly Ripa went back to her roots

None of us could go to the hairdresser during lockdown, but did you photograph and share your root growth with everyone? Maybe not. But celebrities can get away with such behavior. Kelly Ripa shared photos of her grays as they slowly grew out over the course of lockdown. It’s relatable, but we’re not sure we needed to see it.

31. January Jones had a unique happy hour

Lockdown has given us the chance to perfect our skincare routines. But it looks like January Jones may have had a little bit too much time to add to hers. Not only does she don her LED light therapy mask, but she manages to slide a straw through it so she can sip a beer, too. Oh, and of course, there’s dancing.

30. Tiger King starring… Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy?

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who didn’t watch the Netflix docu-series, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, during lockdown. But how many of us thought it’d be fun to remake it and share that video to TikTok? Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy count among the few and, well, their lip sync of Joe Exotic’s song, “Because You Love Me” is something to behold. Especially the hitting of the tiger...with Joe’s guitar.

29. Naomi Watts recorded herself losing her mind

Two-time Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts has no issue with emoting on screen. So it may be that she was hamming it up for the camera when she filmed herself having a breakdown mid-lockdown. The reason for her tears? Supposedly all of her kitchen appliances stopped working – and we kind of get why that reaction… but the best bit is surely the dinosaur roaring sound effects!

28. Angela Kinsey stayed a bit too true to an on-screen role

On The Office Angela Kinsey played Angela Martin, an accountant so obsessed with her cats that she watched them on a nanny cam while she worked. Turns out she’s not so different in real life. She shared this photo of her cat Oreo to Instagram after following him around the house. He was “in the hall closet, on top of the pantry shelf” and then into the dollhouse because, well, why not?

27. Shaq wore a too-perfect face mask

You can have any design you want on a custom face mask… which begs the question, why would you opt for something kind of creepy? Shaquille O’Neal shared the look he chose and, needless to say, its features aligned almost too perfectly with the basketballer’s actual face. Still, at least you’ll get to fool the supermarket security guards who’ll think you’re not wearing a mask.

26. Chrissy Teigen made an over-the-top delivery order

Ordering takeout during lockdown has felt like a downright treat, but us normal people have had to get food locally. Yet in Hollywood Chrissy Teigen shared via Twitter that she had clam chowder sent from Boston all the way to her Los Angeles home. This didn’t go down well with environmentalists and, you know, realists who would never ship soup from one corner of the country to the opposite.

25. Too many celebrities sang “Imagine” together

You’d think with so many people involved, someone would step up and say, “This might not be the best idea.” But 25 celebrities recorded themselves singing John Lennon’s iconic track “Imagine” as a way to inspire the rest of us through lockdown. Spoiler alert: it absolutely backfired and made everyone cringe.

24. Mariah Carey shared her selfie secrets

You don’t need to invest in a fancy ring light to improve your selfies, thanks to Mariah Carey. Because during lockdown she shared where she had found her best glow: from the refrigerator. Yes, the “Always Be My Baby” songstress opened the doors and stood in the white light and voila – she does actually look picture perfect.

23. Kate Beckinsale waxed poetic

Celebrities, they’re just like us: they get bikini waxes at home during lockdown. At least Kate Beckinsale had a good sense of humor about her luxurious treatment – and the pets who watched it go down. She wrote on her Instagram, “No kidding, this bikini wax I just got drew a bigger audience than at least four movies I have done. Also my performance was described as “shattering”, “visceral” and “edge of the seat stuff.”

22. Jennifer Garner cried watching TV

The Office ended in 2013, but Jennifer Garner clearly hasn’t gotten over it. She shared a slow motion video of herself sobbing after watching the show’s series finale seven years after it aired on TV. In the video’s caption, she quipped, “Apparently we are sensitive people…” No doubt.

21. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ makeup job

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has won more Emmy Awards than any other actor in history. But – you’ve guessed it – none of them are for her outstanding makeup skills. Here the Seinfeld actress makes a public service announcement to get people to stay home but, as she jokes, she’d normally have a hair and beauty team to spruce her up. That’s why she doesn’t quite look her best.

20. Blake Lively got crude

Anyone who follows Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively on Instagram knows that the couple is hilarious, and constantly trolling one another via posts and stories. But in this mid-lockdown video the Gossip Girl actress gave her husband a compliment, albeit a crude one. Let’s put it this way: the caption said that she slept with the man who had cut her hair during the pandemic.

19. Gwen Stefani gave Blake Shelton the worst haircut

Blake Shelton and his fiance, Gwen Stefani, made an interesting choice as to what to do with his hair during lockdown. The No Doubt frontwoman could have just buzzed his locks, but no – they decided that the country crooner needed a mullet with racing stripes on the side instead.

18. Liam Gallagher wrote a song called “Wonderwash”

Lots of celebrities stepped up to get the word out that we needed to stay home and maintain our hygiene. And the lead singer of Oasis stepped up too, but his song, jokingly titled “Wonderwash,” had very little helpful information in it. He not only advised listeners to keep their hands clean, but their toes and bottoms, too.

17. January Jones fills her tub with a lot of baking soda

When you run yourself a relaxing bath, what do you put into the tub? You might have some bubbles on hand, or perhaps you scoop in a spoonful of bath salts. But you probably don’t dump an entire box of baking soda into the water. Yet that’s what January Jones does – and she felt the need to share it with the world during lockdown. Shame the cakes in her house will have to suffer as a result.

16. Anne Hathaway won the Instagram pillow challenge

Several celebrities took part in the mid-lockdown viral pillow challenge, which inspired participants to use bedsheets and other linens to create couture outfits. And Anne Hathaway used the opportunity to recreate her iconic look from The Princess Diaries, right down to the sunglasses and headphones.

15. Josh Gad went wild to “Maniac”

So many of us had a lockdown dance to wiggle away the cabin fever. But would you record your wild moves and share them with millions? Josh Gad did. The voice of Frozen’s Olaf wore a long wig and danced his heart out to the song “Maniac.” And he captioned the clip, “I was never going to share this, but something tells me the world needs it now more than ever.” That’s certainly up for debate.

14. Lizzo led a 30-minute meditation

Cuz I Love You is the name of Lizzo’s third studio album. It was also the caption of the 30-minute video she shared to Instagram during lockdown. The half-hour clip saw her playing her flute over a bowl full of gemstones to “promote healing during this global crisis.” The question remains: would you use Instagram for meditative purposes?

13. Amy Schumer geared up for The Bachelor

Olympic gold medalist skier Lindsey Vonn gifted comedian Amy Schumer the eyewear she needed to hit the slopes. So how did the Trainwreck star put it to good use during lockdown, when she couldn’t slalom with it on? As she shared to her Instagram, she wore the goggles to watch The Bachelor. Makes total sense.

12. Courteney Cox remade an iconic scene from Friends

Most people know Courteney Cox for playing Monica Geller on Friends. So during lockdown she decided to give the people a gift. She recreated the famous scene from the show in which she wears an uncooked turkey on her head. At the start of the video, which she shared to Instagram, she warned viewers, “Vegan discretion advised.” Indeed!

11. Dr. Phil shared this very scary photo

It’s freaky to see someone holding a knife and maniacally smiling. And it’s even weirder for that person to think they should take a picture of that moment and share it on the internet. Talk show host Dr. Phil did just that, and the photo had an even wilder caption. It read, “BIG KNIFE! SMALL WIFE!” Clearly a horror joke… we hope.

10. Steve Martin took his banjo for a walk

Outside time has helped so many of us to feel sane and centered during lockdown. Comedic actor Steve Martin decided to share the love with his… banjo. Yes, the Father of the Bride actor carried his instrument along with him on a stroll outdoors. And he performed a concert for no one at all – save for the person behind the camera filming him. Still, it was a catchy tune.

9. Naomi Watts boogied with her houseplants

We’ve already seen Naomi Watts get up to some strange mid-lockdown behavior. Here’s another entry in the actress’s pandemic diary. Because one day she decided to play peek-a-boo with her plants. But that little game turned into something even weirder – a dance party attended only by her and her greens.

8. Cardi B lost Jenga

The whole point of Jenga is that you don’t want to be the person who knocks over the tower. Cardi B did not get that memo. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper posted a video of herself ending a game by… running headfirst through the wooden tower. To make matters worse, she played with an extra-large Jenga set – ouch.

7. Jack Black went shirtless for a little gig

It’s not surprising that Jack Black would do something to make the world laugh during lockdown. The funny man stripped down to his shorts – and added some cowboy boots and a hat – before performing an emphatic dance. We’re talking high kicks, jumps… the whole nine yards. Then, of course, the School of Rock star shared a video of that jig to TikTok.

6. Diane Keaton smooched her pooch

At the start of quarantine Diane Keaton took to Instagram to write, “I’m so glad Emmie is my companion during this long, lonely crisis!” Emmie is, of course, the Oscar winner’s dog. Keaton then shared a video of her kissing the golden pooch on the face. But don’t worry folks, she had a mask on at the time.

5. Judi Dench became a dog

In a video that her daughter Finty Williams posted to Twitter, Judi Dench advised viewers to “keep laughing” during lockdown. Clearly, she had taken her own advice. The Oscar-winning Shakespeare in Love star wore a dog-shaped hat with ears that whipped up and down while she spoke.

4. It was giant cocktail Contessa!

At some point during lockdown, we’ve all wanted – and probably had – a massive cocktail. We just didn’t share the clip of us making said giant drink to social media. Culinary pro Ina Garten had no shame in her alcohol game, though. She posted a clip in which she made a huge one, prompting fans to wonder if the cooking show host was okay after just a single sip.

3. Arnold Schwarzenegger dined with mini horses

Arnold Schwarzenegger was another celebrity who shared a public service announcement mid-lockdown – with a very memorable twist. The former governor of California sat at his table and advised people to stay at home while he… fed a pair of mini horses that were inside of his house.

2. Julianne Moore vacuumed her… entire house

Julianne Moore shared via Instagram that she starts her day by vacuuming her house. That sounds pretty normal, of course, until you realize where she’s hoovering. Because the Academy Award winner would clean both inside and outside of her house with the appliance. Or at least that’s what appeared to be implied. Do lawns need vacuuming?!

1. Madonna re-wrote “Vogue”

We’ve seen quite a few celebrities re-writing their songs for pandemic-related purposes – they did so to encourage people to wash their hands and stay socially distanced. Madonna, on the other hand, penned some new lyrics to her classic tune, “Vogue,” which had nothing to do with..much at all. She sang instead about fried fish. Not her best work by a long shot.
